BEIJING -- The Chinese mainland Wednesday underscored the importance of upholding the "1992 Consensus," which stresses adherence to the one-China principle, in dealing with relations across the Taiwan Strait.
Adherence to the 1992 Consensus has been the foundation for the progress that has been achieved so far in the peaceful development of relations between the Chinese mainland and Taiwan, said Yang Yi, spokesman for the State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office, during a regular news briefing held in Beijing.
Denial of the one-China principle or any attempt to create a "pro-independence" atmosphere will create uncertainty for the future of cross-Strait relations, said Yang. |
