BEIJING -- A Chinese government spokeswoman on Wednesday stressed the importance of the "1992 Consensus" in cross-Strait talks.
Fan Liqing, spokeswoman for the State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office, said at a regular press briefing that the "1992 Consensus" should serve as the political basis for cross-Strait talks or negotiations.
In November 1992, the mainland's Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits and Taiwan's Straits Exchange Foundation reached the common understanding during talks on routine affairs that each of the two organizations should express verbally that "both sides of the Taiwan Straits adhere to the One-China Principle." |
