A peaceful reunification of Taiwan and the mainland is the common wish of the entire Chinese people including Taiwan compatriots. Realization of this wish has to depend on the joint efforts of Chinese compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. Taiwan compatriots have strong patriotism. For more than 100 years, Chinese compatriots in Taiwan have always fought against foreign invasions and safeguarded national sovereignty and territorial integrity should to shoulder with their mainland brothers and sisters. In the past decade and more, Taiwan compatriots have made unremitting efforts in developing cross-strait relations and striving for a peaceful reunification of the motherland. History will record Taiwan compatriots' contributions to China's reunification.
National unification is where the fundamental interests of the Chinese nation lie. And it is closely linked with the welfare of Taiwan compatriots. More and more Taiwan compatriots are against "Taiwan independence" and in favor of national reunification. The CPC and Chinese government hope that Taiwan people will play their role in the process of China's reunification. They hope that people from all walks of life in Taiwan will make their due contributions to the promotion of crossstrait visits, understanding, and economic and cultural exchanges. They hope that Taiwan people will exchange views with mainlanders on national reunification. With support for national reunification from Taiwan people, no force can impede the process of China's reunification. |
