A total of 2,270 delegates have been elected to attend the upcoming 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. About 50 more delegates will attend the 18th National Congress than attended the 17th National Congress five years ago.
They represent more than 82 million CPC members across China. The International Communication Office of the Central Committee of the CPC has briefed the media on the Election of the Delegates to the 18th National Congress of the CPC.
It says in an effort to better represent its members, the CPC has included more delegates from grassroots organizations, such as migrant workers, at the upcoming congress.
Wang Jingqing, Vice Minister, Organization DEPT, CPC Central Committee said, "The structure and distribution of the delegates is rational and highly representative.First, Party members working on the frontline increased. They account for 30.5 percent, 2.1 percent more than the last Congress. Secondly, the party members that are workers increased significantly. Third, female party members and party members from minority groups increased. Fourth, the age structure of the delegates is more rational and they have a higher education level. Fifth, the party members joining the party since the reform and opening up have become a major part of the delegates. The delegates elected include people from various sectors, including the economy, science and technology, national defense and politics, education, publicity, culture, health care, sports and social management.
