After four pairs of female badminton players were disqualified from the Olympics, accused of trying to lose their last qualifying-round matches to face easier opponents in the knockout stage, controversies are rising over the new badminton rules in London Olympics.

The new rules divides the competitors into groups and each player or Double pair play everyone else in their group. Players need to go through three matches instead of one match, to compete the chance for the knockout round.

But players could know who may be their rivals in the knockout round after the preliminary matches. If they meet a tougher opponent player next round, they may loss a medal.

That's why they choose to lose in the preliminary round. World Badminton Federation Secretary General Thomas Lund said the organization may consider to adjust the rules after London Olympics.

Eight players charged with throwing matches at the Olympic badminton tournament have been disqualified from the women's doubles.
