BEIJING, Feb. 5 (Xinhua) -- A Chinese mainland spokesperson on Thursday spoke highly of a recent think tank forum in Beijing held by research institutes across the Taiwan Strait, which marked the resumption of institutionalized exchanges between the Communist Party of China and the Chinese Kuomintang (KMT) party.

Chen Binhua, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, said participants at the forum focused on industrial development and people's well-being, and put forward a range of concrete proposals, reflecting the sense of responsibility of both parties in seeking peace across the Strait, promoting people's well-being, and advancing the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

"We will continue to strengthen communication and exchanges with the KMT on the common political foundation of upholding the 1992 Consensus and opposing 'Taiwan independence,' maintain positive interactions, and work together to promote the peaceful development of cross-Strait relations," Chen said.
